About the Greater Peterborough Network

The Greater Peterborough Network (GPN) was set up in 2015 by local GPs to act as both an NHS Healthcare provider and a GP Federation for the local area. It is owned by the partners of over 20 GP practices in the Greater Peterborough area.

GPN believes that everyone in Peterborough should have the same access to excellent Primary Care, wherever they live. The belief is that through working together, in a network across Peterborough, high quality care can be provided when it is needed most and patient outcomes can be improved.

In particular, GPN is enhancing collaborative working between practices; including sharing resources, improving learning and development opportunities for staff, and working together to enhance the range of services available to patients. GPN is also working to facilitate mergers to form Super Practices and helping to combat recruitment and workload issues.

GPN runs the GP Hub based at a large inner city practice. This offers over 1750 more appointments a month at evening and weekends to patients. By creating more access to appointments patients are given better access to the care they need and busy surgeries are given support to stay on top of the rising demand for appointments.

GPN also provides development opportunities to those who work as part of the Federation. Local clinicians are able to develop special interests that can be delivered “at scale” on behalf of groups of practices. It also provides many opportunities to get involved in organisational development and change management, with exciting developments in technology to trial and implement.
